Namibia
has a dry climate typical of a semi-desert country.
Days are mostly warm to hot, while nights are generally cool.
Average day temperatures in the summer vary from 20°/34°C
and average night temperatures in the winter from 0°/10° C.
Temperatures inland are lower because of the altitude, while the cold Bengela
Current
has a modifying influence on the coastal desert and its hinterland.
The Benguela is the prime determinant of the climate of the Namib, as it reduces
rainfalls.
A striking feature of Namibia's climate is the vast differences between the
arid southern desert
and semi-desertic areas and the tropical water-rich northeast with its abundant
summer rains.
Over 120 species of trees and 200 endemic plants grow in the country.
Large game species are found in the country, including elephant, giraffe, rhino
as well as lion, leopard and cheetah.
Over 630 of the 887 bird species listed for Southern Africa have been recorded
in Namibia.
Namibians
belong to a variety of different cultural groups...
Herero women in Victoria-style dresses, Nama (or Damara) speaking with click
sounds,
Himba women with their intricate hair-styles and ornamental copper necklaces
and anklets,
Bushmen (or San), the last representatives of the hunter-gatherer tradition...
